Busy creative family breakfasts

Disclosure: The information and prize pack have been provided by General Mills through Platefull Co-Op.

We all know that breakfast is an important start to your family’s day, but all too often, it’s rushed, hectic, and…monotonous. So what can be done to make breakfast a little more delightful and fun?

Here are a few great ideas from Target to make your quick but fun breakfasts for your family!

I received a big box filled with yummy breakfast foods from Target and General Mills (including
Nature Valley® Protein Granola, Nature Valley® Granola Bars, Honey Nut Cheerios® Medley Crunch™ cereal, Trix® cereal, Quaker® Oats, Jif® peanut butter,  Nutella® mini cups, and Grandma Hoerner’s® Big Slice™ apples snack), and I was challenged to come up with my own yummy, quick family breakfast.  Here's what I came up with:

I started with a nice, healthy bowl of Quaker oatmeal.  I added cinnamon and just a touch of brown sugar.  Then, I topped the oatmeal with Grandma Hoerner’s® Big Slice™ cherry-vanilla apples.  Yum!

Check out the Target Breakfast Twist site for more creative ideas. What other creative breakfasts do you make for your family?  Leave a comment below!

Target: Pasta and sauce for cheap

I haven't been to Target to grocery shop in several months.  Since Publix clarified their competitor coupon policy, and my local Publix started accepting Target online printable coupons as a competitor coupon, I'd rather use my Target coupons at Publix, since Publix's sale prices are generally cheaper than Target's.

But this week, Target had a great deal on their house brand pasta and sauce, so I decided to take advantage of it!  I was able to get boxes of pasta and jars of sauce for less than 50¢ each.

Here's what I got:

6 Market Pantry pasta @ 99¢ = $5.94
6 Market Pantry pasta sauce @ $1.00 = $6.00
- 6 $1/2 Market Pantry Pasta Sauce AND Dry Pasta Target printable
= $2.94 for six boxes of pasta (49¢ each) and $3.00 for six jars of sauce (50¢ each)

Total product: $5.94
- 10¢ for using two reusable bags

Total spent: $5.84
Total saved compared to Target full prices: $7.84

Target: S'more deals

I don't always make a trip to Target each week, but I wanted to this week because of the deal on the S'mores ingredients: Buy one box Honey Maid graham crackers and one 6 pack of Hershey's chocolate bars, get a 10 oz bag of Kraft marshmallows free!  My kids are going to love having them as a snack - what a special treat!

So I checked the other Target deals for the week. There were some good ones that I just didn't have the coupons for, or that needed printable coupons that were already used up. But this is what I ended up getting:

1 Honey Maid crackers @ $2.99
1 Hershey's chocolate 6 pack @ $2.99
2 Kraft marshmallows @ $1.27 = $2.54
- $1.27 - free marshmallows wyb Honey Maid and Hershey's Target deal
- $1.25 - free marshmallows wyb Honey Maid and Hershey's printable coupon (max value $1.25)
- $1 off wyb Honey Maid, Hershey's, and Kraft marshmallows coupon from the 5/15 Smartsource insert
- 50¢ off Hershey's Target printable coupon
= $4.50 for four, or $1.13 each
(I wasn't sure if the cashier would allow both manufacturer's coupons and the free marshmallow deal, too.  I am not sure if they should have or not.)

2 Kraft salad dressing @ $2.04 = $4.08
- $1/2 Kraft salad dressing Target printable
- $1/2 Kraft salad dressing manufacturer's coupon from the 5/15 RedPlum insert
= $2.08 for two, or $1.04 each

- 5¢ for using a reusable bag

Tax: 12¢
Total spent: $6.65

Target house brands with store coupons vs. ALDI: Which is cheaper?

I was checking the coupons on the Target website and noticed that there were a lot of coupons for their Market Pantry house brand. So I started wondering, would it be cheaper to buy full-price Market Pantry items with a Target store coupon, or to buy the same items at ALDI?

I printed out coupons for salad dressing, cereal, oatmeal, salsa, pasta, and pasta sauce, and headed over to Target and ALDI. Here's what I found:

Item Target Price Target coupon Final Target Price ALDI price Which is cheaper?
salad dressing $1.69 $0.38 $1.32 $1.19 ALDI
pasta $1.09 $0.25 $0.84 $0.89 Target
pasta sauce $1.54 $0.50 $1.04 $1.19 Target
cereal $2.54 $0.50 $2.04 $1.59 ALDI
oatmeal $1.94 $0.50 $1.44 $1.39 ALDI
salsa $1.89 $0.50 $1.39 $1.79 Target

So with Target coupons, it's a toss-up.  But without Target coupons, ALDI beats Target every time.  That's not surprising.

Of course, you can get brand-name versions of all these items for even cheaper by combining sales with coupons at supermarkets.  But if you want to save money more simply, shopping at ALDI and at Target with their online coupons can save you money.

(While I was at Target, I found a bottle of Market Pantry raspberry vinaigrette on clearance for $1.28.  I purchased that and one bottle of regular-priced Italian dressing and used the 75¢/2 coupon.  Including a 5¢ deduction for using a cloth bag, I spent $2 for two bottles of dressing, or $1 each.)

Target: Eggs for 64¢ per dozen!

I went to Target this morning specifically to buy eggs. They're $1.19 per dozen, cheaper than the ALDI price of $1.29. There had been an online Smartsource coupon for 55¢ off 2 dozen eggs, but I didn't get around to printing it and now it's gone. But here's what I did to get the eggs for 64¢ per dozen:

2 Kikkoman soy sauce #@ $1.44 each = $2.88
- 2 $1 Kikkoman product printable coupon
