One of the neat things about doing Wednesday Weekly Shopping is I get to see how much of the food I bought in the week is already gone!
For instance, looking at the Publix picture, the Kraft Homestyle Macaroni and Cheese was eaten pretty much right away. The milk and juice has already been drunk, and much of the fresh produce has already been made into salads and stir-fries. A few of those Kashi meals are gone as well.
But some things are still around. We haven't opened the frozen yogurt yet, and the onions and apples are still waiting to be eaten. And there's no way I could go through all that margarine in one week!
As for the shopping, I made two trips to ALDI and one to Publix. I was unimpressed with the drugstore deals this week, so I skipped going to them. So it was a pretty easy shopping week for me.
Here's what I got this week:
For the year (45 weeks), I spent $3,491.33 for items which retailed for $6,589.11 and saved $3,097.78, or a 47% savings. That's an average of $77.59 spent each week for a family of five (husband, wife, and daughters ages 15, 11, and 7), including lots of fresh produce, dairy items, and kosher meat, as well as paper and plastic goods, health and beauty items, and cleaning supplies.
In 2011, I spent $4,017.13 for items which retailed for $7,344.08, saving 45% and spending an average of $77.25 per week for the year.
