Wednesday Weekly Shopping: Cereal killers

I invite you to link up to your best grocery deals below, to inspire others to save more!

My children are cereal killers!

I haven't had a good stock of breakfast cereal since I ate from the pantry back in January.  I've picked up a couple boxes here and there, but we always seemed to be running out of the stuff, probably because they love to eat it not only for breakfast, but for snacks as well.

Well, no more running out - this week I bought 18 boxes and bags of cereal!

I got four bags of Malt-O-Meal's Cinnamon Toast Crunch knockoff at Big Lots for $1.00 each.  I got six boxes at CVS, which had some great cereal prices this week, and 8 more at the Quaker products sale at Publix over the weekend.

That should keep them for, oh, maybe a couple of weeks.

Here's what I got this week (click on the link below the picture for more details about the trip):

Besides all of those trips, I also went to Target to get items for a baby shower gift basket.  I'm not counting those items toward my weekly total since they were for a gift, but while I was there, I also bought 4 packages of Kraft shredded cheese.  With Target and manufacturer's coupons, I paid $3.00 for four packages, or 75¢ each.

Overall, this week I spent $81.05 for items which retail for $226.98, or a 64% savings.  (But don't compare percentages!)  Of course, if I compared the ALDI prices to supermarket full prices, it would show a lot more savings.

For the year (13 weeks), I've spent $856.75 for items which retail for $1827.89, and saved $971.14, or a 53% savings. That's an average of $65.90 spent each week for a family of five (husband, wife, and daughters ages 13, 10, and almost 6).

See all my shopping here.

I stopped buying boxed cereal a few months ago. We ate it way to fast, and I can make homemade items for way cheaper (pancakes, breakfast muffins and bread, eggs etc).

Every once in a while I do get a craving for Cocoa Puffs though lol!

My family went through a phase where I could never keep cereal in stock too. Now we hardly eat it ever. I think I have had a stockpile of it for a long time now. But the main reason is my hubby is home in the mornings now and he gets up at the crack of dawn. So by the time we all roll out of bed we wake up very spoiled to a hot breakfast and the smell of bacon and fresh coffee each morning.

I used to live in the south and I miss shopping at Aldi. Their syrup is actually really tasty!

I am currently living out in the boonies now so I only get to town about once a week. It forces me to plan my shopping trips which saves but I also cannot just run in to town for a quick deal trip either.

Now that's a great cereal & oatmeal haul! You're inspiring me to keep trying. :)
