Publix 1/18/10: Wow!

Besides my CVS visit, I also made a trip to Publix on 1/18 with my three kids in tow.  I was able to get most of the deals I wanted, but completely forgot to take a picture when I got home!  Oh, well.  I got:

bananas - 3.67 lb @ $.69/lb = $2.53.  Ouch, a lot.

navel orange - .41 lb @ $1.29/lb = $.53.  I needed the orange for a recipe than ended horribly - I'll be writing about it in my upcoming Friday Follies post.

2 Hefty kitchen garbage bags - They were BOGO for $6.49.  I used 2 $.55 off coupons.

2 Lender's bagels - BOGO for $2.09.  I had a $1/2 printable coupon.

2 Pompeian olive oil - BOGO for $5.99.  I had 2 $1 off printable coupons.  I use a lot of olive oil and I was almost out.

2 Smuckers low-sugar spread - BOGO for $3.29.  I had a $1/2 coupon.  Again, almost out of the stuff, needed for school and work lunches.

4 I Can't Believe It's Not Butter 4-packs - BOGO for $2.89.  I had 4 $1 off coupons, so I spent $.45 for each 4-pack of margarine sticks, or $.12 per stick.  Not bad!  But Publix raised the price from the last time I did this deal - the last time I paid 25 cents per 4-pack, or 6 cents each stick!

2 Rice Krispies - BOGO at $3.99.  I had a $1/2 coupon.  This was a quandary, since I am doing the Eat from the Pantry Challenge, and I didn't really NEED the cereal.  I could've made oatmeal and grits for the rest of the month.  But... I caved, as it's easier to serve cold cereal a couple of days a week.

2 Old Orchard juice concentrates - $1.25 each, no coupons.  Another quandary.  We were completely out of all juice products, and I had to decide, would the kids drink nothing but milk and water for the rest of the month?  I caved on this one, too.  *sigh*

Carob raisins in bulk, 0.15 lb @ $2.89/lb.  Ah, the perils of shopping with kids.  They asked for a treat, so I bought a small bag of carob raisins.  Luckily it only cost a bit more than a quarter.

Before the coupons were taken off, the bill was $36.45 - but it would've been $64.08 at regular price.  As the cashier ran all the coupons through, including a $2 off $20 from the Publix calendar, my oldest daughter watched the money go lower and lower and said, "Wow!"  Total bill was $24.35.
