This week, I went over budget again, to the tune of over $30.

I could blame it on the turkey I purchased for our Jewish holiday dinner coming up soon.  Or I could blame it on going back to the drug stores after a hiatus and not having any Register Rewards to use at Walgreens.

But really, it's just bad planning on my part.

However, I'm still well under budget for the year, averaging less than $77 per week for a family of five.  I'm aiming to spend less than $80 each week.

Here's what I got this week:

Overall, this week I spent $110.51 for items which retail for $197.38, or a 44% savings based on the retail value of the products at the stores where they were purchased.  (But don't compare percentages!)

For the year (37 weeks), I spent $2,847.73 for items which retailed for $5,385.98 and saved $2,538.25, or a 47% savings. That's an average of $76.97 spent each week for a family of five (husband, wife, and daughters ages 15, 11, and 7), including lots of fresh produce, dairy items, and kosher meat, as well as paper and plastic goods, health and beauty items, and cleaning supplies.

In 2011, I spent $4,017.13 for items which retailed for $7,344.08, saving 45% and spending an average of $77.25 per week for the year.

It's a little early for turkey, but not a bad Rosh Hashanna/Yom Kippur dinner!

L'shana tovah!
