Saving money on your pool

Today's the first day of spring, so summer is coming soon! If you have a pool in your backyard, it'll be time to start enjoying it!

However, having a pool can get incredibly expensive. Here are some tips I've gleaned:

  • Use a pool cover.  Water won't evaporate, and the pool won't get dirty from leaves and bugs.  (5 Ways to Save Money on Pool Running Costs)
  • Use chlorine bleach instead of pool chlorine.  Baking soda and Mule Team Borax can also be used to stabilize the alkalinity and pH.  See the article for more information on how to use these chemicals.  (How to Save Money on Pool Chemicals)
  • Use a variable speed pool pump, and do the maintenance at night when electricity costs are lower. (How Variable Speed Pumps Can Save You Money)
  • Do not skimp on the pool fence!  That pool fence will keep your children as well as other neighborhood children safe, and you can't put a price on that.  Have a quality pool fence installed and keep it well-maintained.  If you are in the Dallas, Texas area, try searching for "pool fence dallas" to find fence installers in your area.  Otherwise check the internet, ask other pool owners, and ask pool installers and pool maintenance companies to recommend a company for you.
Hope this helps you enjoy your pool and save money as well!
