ALDI: A bit of better butter

I took a trip over to ALDI to pick up the usual basics - milk, eggs, and the like.

While there, I was excited to see that one pound of butter - four sticks - was now priced at $1.99. Before, it was $2.79. I didn't see a discount sign, so perhaps this is a more permanent price change. I'm really happy about this - I prefer to bake with real butter, but because of the cost I sometimes use margarine, with its unsafe hydrogenated oils. Now I can use real butter, yay!

Here's what I got:

2 dozen eggs @ $1.39 = $2.78
2 gallons milk @ $2.79 = $5.58
2 cottage cheese @ $2.19 = $4.38
1 juice pouches @ $1.79
1 frozen juice concentrate @ 92¢
2 cucumbers @ 49¢ = 98¢
1 baby carrots @ 99¢
2.90 lb bananas @ 44¢/lb = $1.28
1 3-lb bag Red Delicious apples @ $2.59
1 whole wheat bread @ $1.29
1 flour tortillas @ 99¢
2 1-lb butter @ $1.99 = $3.98
1 5-lb all-purpose flour @ $1.79
1 instant oatmeal @ $1.39

Total product: $30.73
Tax: 11¢
Total out of pocket: $30.84

Do you have a Sam's club close by? The price of butter there is the best I have ever found. EXCEPT after Thanksgiving last year I found real butter at our HEB (a local grocery store) for .69 a pound. I brought 15 and froze them. I kept them for months.

@Roxie700: That's a good idea. I belong to a BJ's Wholesale Club. I'm not big on warehouse clubs - I find food and paper goods are cheaper when bought on sale and with coupons - but I threw a few huge parties last year so joining then was worth it. My in-laws also belong to Sam's, so perhaps I can go there with them.

I belong to Sam's club as a business owner. (I have done home child care for more than 22 years) It opened a few years ago less than 1 mile from our home. I can go in there with my price book and 'cherry pick' the best buys. Example, dog food...their EXCEED brand is excellent food (per our vet) and cost less than $30.00 for a big 40 pound bag. It lasts our dogs 3 1/2 months.
Butter is less expensive there too. Milk, eggs, and cheese are not. I can beat the price at the local Walgreens. I am lucky enough to live very close to several stores.
I wish we had an Aldi in our area. I am not even sure if there is an Aldi in Texas.
I depend on my price book, knowledge of the area stores, the store ads that come in the Wed. paper, and a few coupons to keep my food budget in check.

Aldi now has eggs at $1.59 at my South Florida Aldi store....

Thank you for linking up at the Aldi Savings Linky at the Aldi Spot.

In the Atlanta area our newspaper (Atlanta Journal Constitution) had a $5 off $30 purchase coupon in the Aldi ad. Good through 11/19!
