Western Beef: Cheap flour?

I stopped by Western Beef yesterday to take advantage of a great deal that they have this week: a 5-lb bag of Flavorite all-purpose flour (their house brand) for 99¢, with an additional $10.00 purchase.

I picked out a few veggies, a couple cans of beans on sale for 50¢ each, and a salad for lunch from their deli (not counted here - that comes out of my personal expenses budget).  Once I was sure that I had $10.00 worth, I picked up the bag of flour.

As I put it in my cart, a woman came up to me and said, "I wouldn't get that if I were you."

I was surprised.  "Why?" I asked.

"That flour is terrible.  Everything I bake with it doesn't come out right."

I thought for a moment, then said, "You're probably right, but I'm going to try it anyway."

So is it cheap flour in price, or cheap flour in quality?  We'll find out.  Personally, I doubt that it is any different from the house brand flours you'd find at Publix or ALDI, and I've never had a problem with those flours.  So we shall see!

Here's what I got:

1 head iceberg lettuce @ 99¢
2 bunches scallions @ 2/$1.29 = $1.29
1.65 lb tomatoes @ 79¢/lb = $1.22
1.53 lb red pepper @ $1.19/lb = $1.82
2 cans Rico black beans @ 50¢ - $1.00
1 5-lb bag Flavorite all-purpose flour @ 99¢ (regularly $2.09)

Total spent: $7.31
Total saved: $1.10

I hope you are going to let us know about the flour:)I don't see a difference between the expensive flour and the Aldi and Publix brands, so it would definitely be interesting to see if you agree with her or not.

I buy cheap flour a lot and OMG that flour bag looks exactly like the bags they sell at Albertsons. It's their store brand. I buy it in the big 13lb bags too.
