Walgreens: Splendid Splenda

I took a trip to Walgreens this morning - usually I go on Sundays, but I simply didn't have the time last weekend. Of course, they were out of a lot of stuff now, but... well, let me just tell you what I got, and then I'll tell you the whole story.

3 Splenda with Fiber 80 packets @ $2.99 (regularly $5.49) - receive $4 RR
- 3 $3 off Splenda coupons from the 4/17 Smartsource insert
= 3¢ moneymaker

1 Scott Naturals 6 rolls @ $5.00
- $1 off Scott Naturals Walgreens coupon (available in-store)
- $1 off Scott 4 or more rolls manufacturer's coupon from the 4/17 Smartsource insert
= $3 for 6 rolls, or 50¢ each

1 Maruchan Instant Lunch @ 25¢ (with in-ad coupon) (regularly 59¢)

Tax: 30¢
Total out of pocket: $3.53
Received $4 Register Rewards
Saved: $18.84

So here's the story: I went to a different Walgreens than usual - since I was going to Target, I went to a Walgreens right across the street.  This one doesn't have as good signage as the one that I normally shop at.  I went to check out the Splenda, but there was no sign that it was selling for $2.99.  Since I had only read about the Splenda Register Rewards deal online, not in the weekly ad, I decided not to take a chance and skipped it.

I went through the rest of my list, but almost nothing was to be found in the store.  I guess this is what I get for waiting until Friday!  I found the Scott paper towels and paid for that, then left.

After shopping at Target, I decided to try the Walgreens that's next to my Publix, since I was going to Publix anyway.  This is my regular store and has much better signage.  Unfortunately, they didn't have much in stock, either.  I did find signs for $2.99 for Splenda, so I took three boxes (there were only four there - sorry to anyone who came after me to do the deal).  But, of course, everything else I wanted was gone, just like the previous store.

I also wanted to get the BOGO reusable shopping bags, but couldn't find them.  I asked a manager, and he told me that the bags had been recalled (what?) and they weren't available.  So, I needed to find another item - otherwise I would have an overage with the Splenda deal, which Walgreens doesn't allow.

So I quickly looked through the ad and found a coupon for the Instant Lunch for 25¢.  This wasn't in the main ad but in a four-page mini section wrapped around the ad - maybe the deal was only good in my state.  I got one and went to check out.

The cashier scanned my products, then did the coupons.  The first two were fine, but the third one beeped.  Perhaps they were considering the overage per item, not for the whole order?  But the cashier put the coupon through manually, and thankfully, the Register Reward did print!

Laura, Its true about the bags, I not sure its funny or sad, or maybe a bit of both. The Earth Day green bags were found to have a very high content of Lead! Can you believe it. Thats why they were recalled.

Wow, that's crazy about the bags, isn't it?

I never have much luck with Walgreens, but I did go in twice in a row and found everything I needed. Amazing!

funny about the bags, I got one from the Disney store at lunch today and a coworker commented on the smell- I wonder if that's what it was??? Yikes!

I always run into trouble trying to find items at Walgreens. We do have one that's better than the rest, and they are really good about being patient with customers doing multiple transactions, etc. One lady even sets up a special display with just items that are free after RR! I love her :)
