Winn-Dixie: Two by two

I generally make a quick stop at Winn-Dixie each week, as I'm in the same shopping center once a week anyway. I don't generally buy a lot there, though. Their regular prices are higher than Publix's, so even if there is a BOGO sale on a brand name, chances are good it will also go BOGO at Publix the next week or the week after, and at a cheaper price, too.

But one good thing about Winn-Dixie is that they often have BOGO sales on their house brand items. That's something you rarely see at Publix.

They also have their new fuelperks! programs, where you can earn cents off a gasoline purchase. You get 5¢ off per gallon (for an up to 20 gallon fillup) for every $50 you spend. Also, certain items each week allow you to get 5¢ or 10¢ off per gallon.

Generally, I'm still not convinced to do a lot of shopping at Winn-Dixie. My van generally takes 15 gallons to fill up. I'd have to spend $50 in order to get 75¢ off a fillup of gas. I think I'd do better buying the deals and paying more for gas. But if there are good deals at Winn-Dixie, I'll go ahead and get them, and if I get 75¢ off gas every month or two, that's a bonus.  And if there are items that get fuelperks! bonuses AND they are well-priced AND I have coupons for them, then I'll certainly get those, too.

Here's what I got:

2 Winn-Dixie tall kitchen garbage bags @ BOGO $4.99 (rain check from two weeks ago)
= $2.50 each

2 StarKist chunk light tuna 4 pack @ BOGO $3.99
= $2.00 each, or 50¢ per can (just barely beats ALDI, where tuna is 52¢ per can)

2 Scotties facial tissue @ 2/$2 (5¢ per gallon fuelperks!)
- 2 50¢/1 Scotties facial tissue printable
= 50¢ each

2 Winn-Dixie vanilla extract, 2 oz @ BOGO $4.99
= $2.50 each

2 Winn-Dixie syrup @ BOGO $2.69
= $1.35 each

Total spent: $18.09
Total saved: $18.15

I'd say you did really well with saving more than you spent. Well done! 'Giant Eagle' here has many of the same deals as Winn-Dixie (gas perks, etc.) but they, too, seem expensive to me, especially compared to Aldi. When I can get a good deal at Giant Eagle I snatch it up because they are rare.

I totally agree with you on the gas perk program. Seems like a rip off in this case especially if you only end up saving so little and spending more on grocery.
