Advantages of having your own domain name

I see that a lot of bloggers who link up at my linkup parties still have a shared domain name - like blogname.blogspot.com or blogname.wordpress.com. Getting your own domain name - like frugalfollies.com - has a lot of advantage, including:

  • You're easier to find.  If people know your blog's name, they might just type in blogname.com into their address bar.  They won't find your blog - or worse, they'll find another similarly-named blog.
  • It looks more professional.  Even if you have shared hosting, you appear to be a separately-run website (at least at first glance).
  • You're creating a brand based on your domain name.
  • Your domain is portable - if you decide to change to a different platform, or if you decide to host your blog yourself, your blog's address can go with you.
  • You can get separate website statistics like Google PageRank, Mozrank, or Technorati or Alexa rankings.
As a frugal person, I'm always looking for inexpensive ways to get things. When I purchase things online, I always look for online coupon codes first. If you're looking for Domain Coupon Codes, then head over to Domain Promo Codes.

Domain Promo Codes has been around since 2008, and they have over 500 domain and hosting promo codes.  So if you've chosen a particular hosting company, chances are that they have Domain Coupons for it.

Head on over to Domain Promo Codes to get online coupons and get your own domain name!

My 100th menu plan!

This is my 100th menu plan here on Frugal Follies!  Woohoo!

And it's the last week of school.  So no more rushing around picking up kids after school until August!  But that also means I don't have any excuses for not making well-cooked, nutritious, healthy meals.

So here are my dinner plans:

CVS / Walgreens: Spent $5.71, saved $14.66

After a few weeks of excellent drugstore shopping, my luck ran out this week.  There weren't too many great deals this week.  I didn't want to purchase some of the good deals, like on dental floss, because I have lots in my stockpile.

And for other deals, I didn't have the coupons.  For instance, the one for Dasani water intrigued me, but the B1G1 Dasani Recyclebank coupon was a mailed coupon instead of a print at home coupon.  And I doubt that I'd receive it in time to use for the sale here.

But I was happy to find the Green & Black 70% Dark Chocolate bars on sale.  I absolutely adore dark chocolate!  And the milk deal at CVS was good as well - $2.69 per gallon after ECBs.  That's a better price than at ALDI, where milk is $2.99 per gallon in my area.

I also picked up some barrettes that were free after RRs at Walgreens, and some eye makeup remover that I found on the discount shelf at CVS.

Here are the details of the deals:

Farm Rich Snacks and Appetizers Review / Giveaway

I love appetizers!  One of my favorite meals I serve each year is for the Super Bowl, when I make a meal of appetizers: nachos, Bruschetta, Cheesy Spinach Dip, Garlic Cheesy Bread, and Jalapeno Poppers, among others.

So I was really excited to have the opportunity to try out Farm Rich snacks and appetizers.  Farm Rich is always there for moms, with wholesome, easy-to-prepare snacks sure to please the entire family.

I received a free product coupon to test out one of their great products.  But what to pick?

There's the mini pizza slices, the Philly cheese steaks, the cheese sticks, and so many more... they all sound so good!  But I settled on the Mozzarella Bites

The Mozzarella Bites are similar to the cheese sticks.  But instead of being covered in bread crumbs and fried, the bite-sized pieces of real mozzarella cheese are surrounded by pizza dough and baked. And they're a good source of calcium and protein and contain no trans fats.  (Yay!)

Although you can microwave the Mozzarella Bites, I chose to bake them in the oven.  Baking was a snap - just preheat, put the bites on a baking tray, and bake for 8-10 minutes.   No complex preparation at all!

When they were done cooking, I was a little disappointed to see that in some of the bites, a bit of the mozzarella cheese had dripped out of the pizza crust.  I was afraid that the cheese had burned, but that had not happened.  Once the bites cooled down a bit, they were ready to eat!

And they were definitely a hit in my house!  I would definitely purchase these again for a party, to have as snacks for my three hungry girls, or for my Super Bowl appetizer dinner next year!

Would you like to try Farm Rich snacks and appetizers?  Use the Farm Rich Snack Locator to find a store near you that carries Farm Rich products.

Or would you like to try them for free?

Frugal Follies is hosting a giveaway for a free product coupon for Farm Rich Snacks and Appetizers!

Two winners will each receive 1 free product coupon good for any Farm Rich product, up to $6.99 in value.  The coupon expires on 12/31/12.

To enter, use the Rafflecopter below!  The giveaway is open to US residents aged 18 and older. This giveaway will end on Friday, June 22nd,  at 12:01 am Eastern time.  If you are the winner, I will contact you shortly thereafter, and you will have 72 hours to respond.  If you do  not respond within that time, your entry will be  declared invalid and a new winner will be chosen.

Good luck!

Skinny Cow coupons

It's almost the end of school here, which means my daughters will be asking this questions over and over and over again: "Can we go get ice cream?"

I do treat them occasionally to a visit to an ice cream parlor, and my oldest loves to get a milkshake.

But now we can have them at home, too!  Skinny Cow has a new line of shakes called Shake-Stirs, and they come in two flavors: White Mint Cookie and Double Chocolate Crumble.  Sounds yummy!

And best of all, there's a printable coupon available for $1.10 off two - so I can get these for my kids and save some money, too!

$1.10 off when you buy any TWO Skinny Cow™ Shake-Stirs™ Varieties

Save on a Newport Beach vacation

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Newport Beach. All opinions are 100% mine.

It's Memorial Day weekend, which means it's the start of summer!  The Frugal Follies family, sadly, does not have a big summer vacation planned this year.  We're continuing to save money to pay off our home equity line of credit, so no big trips until we achieve that goal.  But don't worry, we'll still have fun this summer; we've planned a small weekend jaunt to visit friends, and we'll be swimming in my relatives' pool, playing at the park, and otherwise having lots of summer fun.

But if I could, I'd love to go on a big vacation!  One place that's caught my eye is Newport Beach, California.  Look at this video - wouldn't you love to go there?

You should definitely check out the Newport Beach visitor's site. There's plenty of information about the city, including events in the city, where to eat, and where to stay. Under the "Things to Do" tab, there are lots of options!  Newport Beach has 10 miles of beaches and lots of water sports, as well as hiking and other outdoor activities.  And, of course, lots of shopping.

There are lots of unique eclectic events, such as Giant Blue Whale Watching, the Balboa Island Parade, and the Newport Dunes Boat and RV Festival.  And check out the kids' camps.  There are hundreds of camps for children of all ages and interests.  I know my kids would love these camps!  And I know we would love to take a trip there as well!

And here's a great deal for the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach hotel: Buy one room at full price, receive a connecting room for kids 18 and under at 50% off. The Hyatt Regency Newport Beach is a resort-style bayside destination on 26 acres and boasts 3-pools and whirlpools, shuffle board, ping pong, a 9-hole, par-3 golf course. Call 800-233-1234 and mention the Family Plan to book today!

Don't you need a vacation like this? (I know I do!)  Wouldn't you just love to vacation here?  What activities would you like to do?  Leave a comment below!
