How was your savings this week?

I had a large savings amount, but it was dwarfed by the amount I spent.  I was shopping to get ready for the Passover holiday, which meant a lot of special foods, meat, and produce.  I also made a trip to Walmart to pick up some personal hygiene items that I would normally buy on sale at a drug store.  But since I haven't drug store shopped much in the last several months, I am increasingly finding myself running out of certain items that rarely go on sale at Publix.

The one piece of good news is that I probably won't do too much shopping next week.  I have plenty in the house, thank you!

I went to Publix four times this week!  Two big shops for deals, another one to pick up some more on-sale toilet paper, and a fourth when my child with special needs insisted that we have "pizza bread" for dinner last night.  (That means French bread pizza.)  I didn't have any bread or mozzarella cheese in the house, so I made a special trip just for her.  She was very happy at dinner that night.

For those of you wanting to see my final figures and for those of you who wanted to link up, I'm sorry that this hasn't appeared for the past two weeks.  I was very busy with a major family event and its aftermath, and blogging about my shopping trips definitely took a back seat.

So, two weeks ago (week ending 2/28), I have no idea what I spent.  I was buying food for my family as well as for several parties at my home, and I often bought for both at once.  So let's just say I spent $100 on food that week and saved nothing. I probably spent more than that, and I did use a couple of coupons, but most of the food was eaten by my large number of guests in my home.

Last week, the week ending 3/7, I spent $4.50 at Walmart, $33.16 at Publix, and took two trips to Publix, spending $25.32 and saving $41.96 on the first, and spending $18.81 and saving $23.33 on the other.  Overall I spent $81.79 and saved $65.29.

I went over my budget of $80 per week for a family of five this week.  That's because I bought meat - I don't buy my meat at the supermarket, but at a kosher specialty store.  I buy the less expensive cuts of chicken and beef, but I still spent $45 there.  But I'm still averaging well below $80, so all is good!

Friday Figures 01/03/14 - link up your savings!

I had originally started a grocery link up on Wednesdays because that was the end of the Publix shopping week in my area.  But I found that most people were reading and linking up on Fridays, not Wednesdays.  So, I've decided to move this linkup to Friday and change the name!

I was pretty faithful in totaling my grocery shopping deals throughout 2011, 2012, and part of 2013.  But around August, I stopped posting my ALDI deals.  Then, I found that I often would lose my ALDI receipt by the time the linkup was to go up.  So I stopped doing the posts, and therefore don't know if I was able to keep my average of $80 per week for a family of five, including two teenagers, for the rest of the year.

I had another week where I spent considerably less than my budgeted $80 per week.  Even though I made two trips to Publix and one to ALDI, I only spent a little more than $57 this week.  Yay!

But we're out of meat, so this week we'll be stocking up.  That means that next week's total will definitely be above average.  Boo...

Below last year's average! (Wednesday Weekly Shopping)

I haven't shopped much over the past two weeks because we were on vacation!  We visited with family, who were kind enough to feed us.  So there was very little shopping to be done.

In fact, the only shopping I did this week was a trip I made when I first got home.  I went to ALDI for some basics - milk, vegetables, and the like.  I spent $34.80 and saved nothing.

That, and last week's total of $4.07 for the week, brought my yearly average to $76.29 - below my 2011 and 2012 averages!  Amazing!
