Publix: Just not my week

Usually in this space each week, I showcase all of the great deals I got at Publix.  Generally I spend somewhere from $15 to $25 and saved 70% or 80%.

Not this week.  I didn't have a lot of time to plan my trip, and the deals I found weren't all that great.  I had trouble printing the Publix Best Meals Happen at Home coupons, so I didn't save nearly as much on the items I did get.  And some of the coupons I brought to the store ended up not being matches for the products I'd hope to buy.

So here is what I got.  I hope next week is better!

4 Knorr Sides @ BOGO $1.59 = $3.18

Publix: Store coupons are the best!

Now that Walmart accepts Publix BOGO deals in Florida, what's keeping customers at Publix?  Besides the clean, stocked, well-organized stores and the friendly, helpful staff, another great part of shopping at Publix is that there are lots of store coupons available! Those coupons won't be accepted at Walmart, so to save the most, shop at Publix and combine manufacturer's and store coupons - both from Publix and from other stores that your local store accepts.

I headed out to Publix on Wednesday to get some deals based on Publix store coupons from the new green Grocery Flyer and the new purple Health & Beauty Flyer, as well as the Healthy Savings and Start Your Year booklets.  I was also able to get some Green Giant chips, which were sold out when I went at the beginning of the sales week.  And, I picked up more of the South Beach diet bars, Quaker oatmeal, Cascadian Farm granola, and Goldfish crackers that I got last week as well.  Yum!

Here's what I got:

2 South Beach Diet Good-To-Go bars @ BOGO $2.79
- 2 $1/1 South Beach Diet Product printable
= 79¢ for two, or 40¢ each

- 4 $0.75/1 Cascadian Farm Product printable

Publix: Great deals on South Beach and Cascadian Farm products

This was a fun week shopping at Publix.  I was able to find two coupon booklets - the Healthy Savings and the Start Your Year Off with Big Savings booklets.  I'll definitely be going back later in the shopping week to get deals that use coupons from these booklets!  I also found the Best Meals Happen at Home coupons.  I took two of the Green Giant chips coupons, but when I went to find the product, I found the shelf completely empty.  Well, there was one bag there, but here in the land of true BOGO that doesn't help you get a deal.

Otherwise, I loved the South Beach Diet and Cascadian Farm deals.  The deal for Finish detergent gave a fairly high out of pocket, but we needed detergent.  Isn't it interesting how sometimes deals come right when you need them?

Here's what I got this week.

2 South Beach Diet Good-To-Go bars @ BOGO $2.79
- 2 $1/1 South Beach Diet Product printable
= 79¢ for two, or 40¢ each

2 Cascadian Farm granola @ $2.50 = $5.00
- 2 $0.75/1 Cascadian Farm Product printable
- $1/2 Cascadian Farm Healthy Savings Publix Coupon or printable (look under Additional Ads)
= $2.50 for two, or $1.25 each

2 Fresh Express lettuce @ BOGO $3.99
- $1.50/2 Fresh Express Bags, exp. 3/31/14 (SS 01/05/14 #2)
= $2.49 for two, or $1.25 each

4 Quaker Oats oatmeal @ BOGO $3.79 = $7.58
- 2 $0.75/2 Quaker Oatmeal, Instant Oatmeal, or Cold Cereal, exp. 2/28/14 (RP 01/12/14)
= $6.08 for four, or $1.52 each

2 Pepperidge Farm goldfish @ BOGO $2.49
- $0.50/2 Goldfish Crackers Target printable (one coupon per person)
= $1.99 for two, or $1.00 each

2 Finish dishwasher detergent @ BOGO $11.99
- 2 $2.15/1 Finish Powerball, Gelpacs or Quantum, exp. 2/8/14 (SS 01/05/14 #3 R)
= $7.69 for two, or $3.85 each

- $5 off $30 Winn-Dixie coupon (Enjoy the City)

Tax: 72¢
Total spent: $17.26
Total saved compared to Publix full prices: $49.12

Publix: Deals on vitamins and bandages

A couple of weeks ago, I started the Friday Figures link up here at Frugal Follies.  It replaces the old Wednesday Weekly Shopping.  I'm glad I restarted the linkup, because it helps me save!

I go to Publix on Thursday or Friday for the deals I find, but then over the weekend, I check out the other shopping trips in the linkup.  Sometimes I find deals that I completely overlooked.

For instance, last week I missed deals for Sundown vitamins and Band-Aid bandages.  So I went to Publix again before the end of the shopping week to catch these deals.  I also got some more Babybel cheese (the first package disappeared within a day of the last shopping trip) and bananas (I dislike the ones at ALDI).

Here are all the details:

3.03 lb bananas @ 69¢/lb = $2.09

2 Band-Aid bandages @ $2.39 = $4.78
- $2/2 Band-Aid products printable (zip 03103)
- 2 $0.75/1 Johnson & Johnson Red Cross Brand Gauzes, Covers, Wraps or Tapes, COACH Sports Care Item or BAND-AID Brand Adhesive Bandages, exp. 1/17/14 (Publix Purple H&B Advantage)
=  $1.28 for two, or 64¢ each

4 Sundown vitamins totaling $20.66
- 4 $1/1 Sundown Naturals Vitamin or Supplement, exp. 3/6/14 (RP 01/05/14 #2)
- 2 $5/2 Sundown Naturals Vitamins or Supplements, exp. 1/17/14 (Publix Purple H&B Advantage)
= $6.66 for four, or $1.67 each

2 Mini Babybel @ $2.50 = $5.00
- 2 $1.00 off any one mini Babybel cheese product
= $3.00 for two, or $1.50 each

- $5 off $30 Winn-Dixie coupon (Enjoy the City)

Total spent: $8.03

Publix: Newspaper coupons for the win!

Lately, I've found that most of the coupons I use at Publix are printable coupons, not newspaper coupons.  Too often, I've found that I don't have the newspaper coupons that match up with store sales.  And sometimes, the coupon on the Internet is for a higher denomination than the one in the paper.

But not this week!  I was able to get lots of deals this week by using newspaper coupons. The inserts from January 5th were amazing - five different inserts!  I was able to get a second copy from relatives, and they really came in handy this week!  When I get my free coupon inserts this weekend, I hope there will be more copies of this coupon.  I'll probably be heading back to Publix early next week to pick up a few more deals!

Of course, there were plenty of deals using printable coupons as well.  I think my favorite was the $1.50 for Mini Babybel cheese by using this $1.00 off any one mini Babybel cheese product coupon. My daughter had asked for that cheese, and I was happy to be able to get it at a discount.

Also this week, I also received my $10 gift card from the Publix Running Out? Run In rebate in October.  That helped bring down my out-of-pocket total even more!

Here's what I got at Publix this week:

1 Mini Babybel @ $2.50
- $1.00 off any one mini Babybel cheese product
= $1.50

 2 Glad Wrap @ $1.69 = $3.38
- 2 $1/1 Glad Food Protection Product printable
- 2 $0.75/1 Glad Press'n Seal or Glad Cling Wrap, exp. 1/17/14 (Publix Purple H&B Advantage)
= 12¢ moneymaker

2 Lean Cuisine Honestly Good entrees @ BOGO $4.69
- $1/1 Lean Cuisine Honestly Good Frozen Entrees Target printable (one coupon per person)
= $3.69 for two, or $1.85 each

2 Sea Cuisine tilapia @ BOGO $6.69
- 2 $1/1 Highliner Sea Cuisine Product printable
= $4.69 for two, or $2.35 each

2 New York breadsticks @ 50% off $2.95 = $2.95
- 2 $0.50/1 New York Brand Frozen Bread Product printable
= $2.05 for two, or $1.03 each

- $0.75/1 Mueller's Pot-Sized Pasta printable (one coupon per person)
= 84¢ for two, or 42¢ each

5 Knorr sides @ $1.00 = $5.00
- $1.50/5 Knorr Rice or Pasta Sides printable
= $3.50 for five, or 70¢ each

2 Mrs. Butterworth's syrup @ BOGO $3.49

Publix: Sometimes you gotta skip the deal

Shopping at Publix this week was a little tough.  I found it difficult to find enough great deals to make the $30 needed to use the Winn-Dixie $5 off $30 coupons from the Enjoy the City booklets.  I did finally make it to a pre-coupon total of about $35, but that was $15 short of being able to get a $50 gas gift card for $40. I wasn't about to spend an extra $15 on stuff just to save $10, so I skipped the deal.  Oh, well, can't win 'em all

Here's what I got at Publix this week:

4 Capri-Sun 10-pack @ $1.79 = $7.16
- 2 $1.50/2 Capri-Sun printable coupon (zip code 03103 - click on the link, change the zip code, then reload the page)
= $4.16 for four, or $1.04 each

2 Nature Valley granola bars @ $1.99 = $3.98
- 2 $1.25/1 Nature Valley granola bars printable coupon (zip code 77477 -  click on the link, change the zip code, then reload the page)
= $1.48 for two, or 74¢ each

12 Yoplait yogurt @ 50¢ = $6.00
- 2 $0.40/6 Yoplait Yogurt printable
= $5.20 for twelve, or 43¢ each
(There is also now a $1/10 Yoplait Publix coupon from Best Meals Happen at Home - check your email!)

2 Ronzoni 150 pasta @ BOGO $1.49
- 2 $0.75/1 Ronzoni 150 Pasta printable
= 1¢ moneymaker

2 Duracell AAA batteries @ 25% off $7.99 = $11.98

Publix: Free eggs, yay!

I finally found copies of the Winter Family Savings booklets.  I love that there are online coupons for the booklets, but having them for real is even better.  Unfortunately, the coupons expire on the 31st.  But I was able to get four dozen eggs for free with the coupon in the booklet.  My daughter loves the Sargento shredded Parmesan, so she's really happy that we have it at home.  The shredded cheese freezes well.

This week's trip was a lot higher out of pocket than usual.  Besides the expensive (though on sale) shredded cheese, another reason is that I almost made a coupon mistake - I thought that the Kraft Singles coupon from the Family Celebrations flyer was a match for the Kraft Singles sale this week.  But it wasn't - the Family Celebrations coupon is for 16 oz packages, but the sale is on 12 oz packages.  I caught this problem while in line and didn't want to make a change after my food was already on the conveyer belt.

So here's what I did end up getting:

8 Sargento shredded Parmesan @ $2.50 = $20.00

4 dozen eggs @ $2.19 = $8.76
- 4 FREE Publix Large Eggs, wyb 2 Sargento Shredded Cheese, exp. 12/31/13 (Publix Winter Family Savings Booklet or printable)
= FREE

2 Pillsbury Heat-N-Go pancakes @ $1.15 = $2.30
- 2 FREE Pillsbury Heat-N-Go coupons (left over from a previous review - max value 99¢)
= 32¢

4 Kraft Singles @ $3.00 = $12.00
- 2 $1/2 Kraft Singles (zip 12345)
(also available: $1/2 Kraft Singles (zip 12345) and $1/2 Kraft Singles (zip 12345)
= $10.00 for four, or $2.50 each

2 Daisy sour cream @ BOGO $2.50
-  $1/2 Daisy Brand Sour Cream Target printable
= $1.50 for two, or 75¢ each

4 Nabisco crackers family size @ BOGO $4.49 = $8.98
- 2 $1/2 Nabisco Snack Crackers printable
= $6.98 for four, or $1.75 each

2 Scotch-Brite scrub sponges @ BOGO $2.99
- $0.75/2 Scotch-Brite Scrub Sponge Multipacks printable
= $2.24 for two, or $1.12 each

2 Scotch-Brite Dobie pads @ BOGO $2.99
(I didn't realize these were also on a BOGO sale until I got to the store.  There is a $0.75/2 Scotch-Brite Dobie Cleaning Pads printable printable coupon for them but I didn't have it.)

- 2 $5 off $30 Winn-Dixie coupon (Enjoy the City)

Tax: 36¢
Total spent: 34.39
Total saved compared to Publix full prices: $61.43
Plus a $50 gas gift card for $40
