Publix: Help your community with coupons!

Be sure to enter for a chance to win a $25 Publix gift card!

One of the great things about couponing is that you can help not just yourself and your family, but also your friends, neighbors, and your community!

Today, a temporary increase to SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, otherwise known as food stamps) will end, which will result in a decrease of benefits to qualifying families.  That means that families will have less cash assistance to purchase groceries, and will be more likely to depend on family, friends, and local food banks for food.

Local food banks were already straining to help those in need, even before this benefit decrease.  So I strongly urge you to use your couponing skills to help!  If you're like me, you have a large stockpile of items you've bought cheaply in the past.  Go through your stockpile this weekend to find items you can donate to your local food bank.

And whenever you see a shelf-stable item that can be purchased cheaply by combining sales with coupons, purchase a few (or a few extra) to give to your local food bank.  Every little bit helps!

I saw that the SNAP increase would be decreased and I looked it up online (concerned teacher in a low income area). When I saw how much families get, it made me wish that information on budgeting, sale shopping, and couponing were provided to people receiving SNAP. Depending on income, some families have more "food money" available than I do. My school district offers free breakfast and lunch to all students, regardless of income, and I still see a lot of hungry kids. Kudos to you for thinking of others.
