I did a bunch of shopping this week, but didn't blog about most of it. So if you think I barely bought anything this week, and are wondering how I manage to feed a family of five on just bread crumbs and ice cream bars... well, that's not true.
Here's what I did get this week:
I also made two trips to ALDI, spending $12.89 on the first trip and $28.85 on the second. And I bought a kosher chicken breasts family pack, spending $24.16.
Overall, this week I spent $79.19 for items which retail for $98.86, or a 20% savings based on the retail value of the products at the stores where they were purchased.
For the year (20 weeks), I spent $1,593.67. for items which retailed for $2,715.89 and saved $1,122.22, or a 41% savings. That's an average of $79.68 spent each week for a family of five (husband, wife, and daughters ages 15, 12, and 8), including lots of fresh produce, dairy items, and kosher meat, as well as paper and plastic goods, health and beauty items, and cleaning supplies.
In 2011, I spent $4,017.13 for items which retailed for $7,344.08, saving 45% and spending an average of $77.25 per week for the year.
In 2012, I spent $4,007.13 for items which retailed for $7,591.37, saving 47% and spending an average of $77.06 per week for the year.
