Saving on gas... or getting it for free!

Gas prices were rising really quickly earlier in the year.  They seem to have stabilized a bit, but the price is still really, really high.

Here are a few things I'm doing to try to save on gas:

  • I'm riding my bicycle more.  I got the impetus to do this from Mr. Money Mustache. (If you aren't reading his blog, you definitely should!)  My area is not so bike friendly, so I've only ridden it on small nearby errands and to my daughter's school to volunteer.  One of these days I'll try going to the grocery store on my bike, especially if I only have a few items to get that will fit in a backpack.
  • I'm scheduling all my errands for one or two days a week, and staying home the other days.
  • I'm walking my daughter over to playdates that are less than 1 mile away instead of automatically taking the car there.  Her legs work, she doesn't need to be chauffered to nearby places.
  • Any time Publix has a sale on gas cards ($10 off a $50 gas card when you buy $50 in groceries), I take advantage of it!
Of course, even better than saving on gas is getting it for free!

Shell is giving one lucky winner gas for a year... and even better, you can let 5 friends get free gas as well!
