Tophatter Review / $100 PayPal or VISA gift card giveaway

One great way to save is by using online auctions.  You often can get items for a fraction of the price that you'd get at the store!  The seller of the item doesn't have the same overhead that a store does - rent, electricity, personnel, and so on - so the savings can be passed on to you!

I've never been to a live auction, but I understand they can be great fun to attend, even if you don't buy.  But computerized auctions are a more efficient use of your time and have a larger number of items available.

Here's a site that combines the fun of a live auction with the efficiency of a computerized one: Tophatter.

Here's an introductory video for you to learn more about Tophatter:

Like most computerized auctions, there are great product up for sale at all hours of the day or night.  Products include jewelry, home decor, arts and crafts, and so much more. Most auctions are quick - some as quick as two minutes, or even less! So be on your toes!

The feature I really like best is that the auctions are shown with virtual avatars!

The auctioneer and seller are pictured at the front of the group.  The seller is there to answer any questions, and the auctioneer runs the auction, telling you who the highest bidder is and how much time there is left in the auction.  All the people watching the auction are the audience (including you - your avatar is circled) who can bid on items and ask questions of the seller. You can customize your avatar to personalize it!

This little touch makes it seem so much more personal - but be careful!  Just as you might be tempted to go over your price point in a live auction, the personalization might make you want to bid more than you know you should pay.  Just decide how much you want to pay, and stick to it!

Want to give Tophatter a try?  Here's something to tempt you: for readers of Frugal Follies, Tophatter wants to give you $10 off your first $11 purchase!  What a great deal!

And to make it even better, Tophatter is giving away $100 via PayPal or VISA gift card to help you get going with the great auctions! The giveaway ends March 9th at 11:59pm and is open worldwide residents, ages 18+.

Forget garage sales or craft fairs! Or specialty re-sale stores! If you have a lot of knick-knacks and vintage trinkets, Tophatter is a great place to sell your goods. You can organize everything you want to sell in the specific lot or timeslot that will allow the most interested visitors to find your items!

What is nice is that the auctions really don't last that long and they are right on to the next item.

I like the personalization of Top Hatter too, but worry I'd get carried away and not remember it's real money because of how entertaining the site seems.
