Alexia Mushroom Bites Review

One of my annual Super Bowl traditions is that I serve appetizers for dinner.  Not before dinner, but for dinner.  I make my delicious jalapeno poppers, nachos, veggie sticks with dip, and a host of other treats.  The kids love this, and so do I!

This year, the folks at Alexia Foods - the makers of those incredibly delicious sweet potato fries - helped me make the appetizers for dinner meal a little more special.  They sent us a package of their Mushroom Bites to try.

I was excited to get the package delivered, well-packaged and still frozen.  Before I popped the box into the freezer, I checked the ingredients and nutritional information.  (I'm such a spoilsport.)  I was happy to see that there weren't any artificial ingredients in the mushroom bites: just mushrooms, olive/safflower/canola oils, wheat and corn flour, garlic powder, and some seasonings.  They weren't too high in sodium or fat, either!

Super Bowl Sunday came a few days later and it was time to try the Mushroom Bites out. They were super easy to make.  I just put them in a 400 degree oven for 15 minutes, turning them over halfway through.  No deep-frying necessary.  They cooked evenly and didn't burn, thank goodness! We gave them a few minutes to cool and then dove in!

The mushrooms were nicely covered by the bread crumbs - the coating didn't flake off.  There were various sizes of mushrooms; some were very small, and others were the size of a button mushroom.

Taste: delicious!  The mushroom flavor wasn't overpowered by the fried bread crumb coating.  You know how at fancy steak houses, you can order a side of mushrooms and onions?  That's what the mushrooms tasted like here.  The mushroom flavor was accented by roasted garlic and olive oil.  I served them with the roasted garlic veggie dip that I bought on sale with coupons at Publix last week, but they would also be good served plain.

My one complaint is that we would have liked to have had more!  The amount in the box is a little on the small side, particularly if you're serving more than a few people.  If you're having a large party, be sure to buy several boxes - you won't regret it.

Would you like to try Alexia Mushroom Bites?  Check the Alexia Store Locator - choose "Baked Appetizers" as the category and "Mushroom Bites" as the item, enter your zip code, and hit enter to find a store near you!

I found that Mushroom Bites are available at my local Whole Foods Market - not my usual store, but I'll have to get more the next time I'm there!  Can't wait to serve them again next Super Bowl!

I really enjoy some of their foods. I will have to let my family try these.
