CVS: No free milk... :-(

I stopped by CVS today, hoping to get two gallons of milk for no money out of my pocket!

I had lots of Extra Care Bucks from Black Friday, so this was my plan:

 2 gallons milk @ $3.49 = $6.98 (receive $2 ECBs)
Pay with $4.00 and $2.99 ECB (rounding the second one down to $2.98)

Total out of pocket: $0.00
Receive $2 ECB

But... that didn't work for me.  In the past, the cashiers have been able to accept less than the face value of the ECB.  But this time, the cashier couldn't get it to work.  Is this a corporate change, or did I just have an uninformed cashier?

So I went with the next smallest ECB I had, which was for $2.37  I ended up paying 61¢ for the two gallons of milk.  Still not bad!

And, I received a $1 ECB for using my green bag four times.  Yay!
