ALDI: Egg prices are up!

At ALDI this week, I noticed how high the price of eggs has become.  I bought two dozen eggs for $1.49 each.  Just a few weeks ago, eggs were $1.19 per dozen.  And not so far back, they were 99¢ per dozen.

Sometimes Walgreens will have eggs on sale for that price.  I always check for that in the Walgreens flyer each week.  When they have eggs that low, I make sure to stop by on Sunday and pick up a few dozen.

But eggs weren't on sale this week at Walgreens, so I got them at ALDI.  It's still cheaper there than the grocery stores.  And I understand why - the drought in the Midwest is causing chicken feed prices to skyrocket.  It's why meat prices are always going up.

Oh, well, we love eggs around here, so we will just have to pay the higher prices.

Here's what I got at ALDI this week:

2 gallons milk @ $2.99 = $5.98
2 lb salmon @ $7.99
1 lb shredded mozzarella @ $2.99
1 lb shredded cheddar @ $2.99
1 white zinfandel @ $2.89
1 cantaloupe @ $1.29
1 3-lb apples @ $3.49
1 8-oz extra sharp cheddar @ $1.79
2 dozen eggs @ $1.49 = $2.98
1 cottage cheese @ $1.99
1 whole wheat bread @ $1.29

Tax: 18¢
Total out of pocket: $35.85

I always try to get the cheap eggs at Walgreens when they are on sale too! (Grandma has taught me well!)
