CVS and Walgreens: Stretching for a deal

Is it me or have the deals at CVS and Walgreens just not been very good lately?

(I'm pretty sure it's not me, as others have commented about the same thing.)

And when there actually is a good deal - like the CVS deal on Softsoap this week - I end up not having the coupons in my coupon file drawer.  Frustrating.

But I really wanted to get some sort of deal at the drug stores, so I found something to get at each.  My husband was down to one bottle of aspirin, so I got one at Walgreens.  And I needed some eyeliner, so I got it at CVS.  Not the best prices by any means, but not the worst either, and still better than full price.

Here's what I got:

Walgreens:

1 Bayer chewable aspirin 81 mg @ $3.19
- $1/1 Bayer Aspirin (Walgreens, March)
= $2.19

Total spent: $2.19
Total saved compared to Walgreens full prices: $1.00 (woohoo!)

CVS:

1 CVS jelly beans @ 99¢ (receive 99¢ ECB)
= 99¢

1 Maybelline New York eyeliner @ $7.99 (receive $3 ECB wyb $10 in products)
- $1/1 Maybelline New York Eyeshadow or Eye Liner, exp. 4/5/12 (RP 02/05/12)
= $6.99

1 Maybelline New York Baby Lips @ $3.99 (receive $3 ECB wyb $10 in products)
- $2/1 Maybelline New York Lip Product, exp. 4/5/12 (RP 02/05/12)
= $1.99

Total before ECBs: $9.97
Pay with $6.99 ECB from previous trip
Total after ECBs: $2.98
Tax: 78¢

Total spent: $3.76
Total saved compared to CVS full prices: $10.19
ECBs received: $3.99
