Three Thrifty Things 2-13-12

Welcome to Three Thrifty Things, a new feature here at Frugal Follies!

I've noticed that sometimes I get so busy with blogging about frugality that I'm not doing the frugal things that got me to start this blog in the first place!  So each week I'll be listing three things I'll do that week, beyond the typical day-to-day tasks I already do, to either help save money or to bring in extra income.  That way, I'll be practicing what I preach, so to speak.

This week, I'll be:
  1. Cooking pinto beans in the crockpot and making salt-free refried beans out of them.  My husband is on a low-salt diet, and canned refried beans are full of salt.  I love to use refried beans to make veggie burritos, so I'll cook up some of my own and package them for the freezer for future use.
  2. Check out prices and deals for a new dishwasher.  Ours has not been working well for months, and it's 16 years old.  So I think it may be time for a new one.  I'll be doing some research to figure out what features we want, which ones we don't need, and where the best deals are.
  3. List some used designer children's clothes on eBay.  I got some great hand-me-downs of children's clothes with designer labels that my children have outgrown.  They're still in good condition, so I'm planning on listing them on eBay to bring in some extra money for our goals.

Great idea to list what you are DOING to be thrifty. Here's mine 1. Get the coupons out of the paper(from last week) and put them where I can easily use them. 2. Menu plan so there's no excuse to eat out. 3. Do some baking so that we aren't eating cereal as much.
