Menu plan: Everything soup

I'm going to try something new this week.

I love to make a big Friday night Shabbat dinner for my family.  Problem is, the kids eat the chicken soup with matzah balls and the challah and then say they're done.

Another problem with making a big meal is that I'd like to attend my synagogue's Shabbat service, but it's at 6:10 pm and goes about an hour.  So I'd have to make the full dinner earlier, then heat it up afterwards.  We'd probably not be able to eat until after 8 pm, and the kids will be getting cranky by then.

So here's the solution I'm going to try: I'm going to use my crockpot to make a full meal soup.  It'll have the chicken broth and matzah balls, but also sliced chicken, vegetables, beans, and noodles or rice.  I'll serve that with the challah, or perhaps we'll save the challah for Saturday morning breakfast and we'll have a crusty whole wheat French bread with it.  Since it's in the crockpot, it'll just be a matter of opening it and serving.

I'll let you know how this plan works next week - if it's good, this could be a weekly meal

Here's what's for dinner this week:

Monday - salmon with lemon-pepper seasoning, brown rice with salsa and cheese, salad

Tuesday - meatballs in tomato sauce, pasta, salad

Wednesday - 3 Can Veggie Chili in burritos

Thursday - mushroom whole-wheat pizza

Friday - Everything Soup, challah

Saturday - grilled cheese and tomato soup

Sunday - dinner out
