CVS: Special K-ustomer service!

We are big Special K fans in my house, so I was really excited about one of the deals at CVS: Buy three boxes of Special K cereal or cereal bars at 3/$10, receive $4 in Extra Care Bucks. There was a limit of 5 on this deal. I took that to mean 5 deals of three boxes each, since they have limit 1 on deals where you have to buy two items. There were also $1/3 coupons for Special K cereal and bars in the 1/1 RedPlum insert, so this deal would be $5 for three boxes, or $1.67 each.

So I picked up three cereal boxes and three cereal bars boxes, along with my other items, and headed to the register. After ringing up my items and paying, the receipt and ECBs printed out. "You have $4 for buying Special K," said the cashier.

"No, there should be $8," I said. "I got two deals, $4 ECBs each."

She asked to see the ad, so I grabbed one, located the deal, and gave it to her. She checked to make sure I had bought the right items, then called the manager over.

The manager looked it over too, scratched his head, and said, "Yes, that should have printed." And he scanned the items and printed out another ECB for me.

Woohoo, I love great customer service!

(Now I'm thinking that you can get only one deal per transaction, but you can get 5 deals over the course of the week.  Wish the ad had said that!)

Here's the shopping trip:

2 Theraflu syrup @ 2/$11.00 = $11.00 (receive $3 ECBs)
- $3/2 Theraflu Product, exp. 4/6/12 (SS 01/22/12)
- $5 Retailer Gift Card from Theraflu printable (mail-in rebate)
= $8.00 (free after ECBs and mail-in rebate)

3 Special K cereal @ 3/$10 = $10 (receive $4 ECBs)
- $1/3 Kellogg's Special K Cereal, exp. 2/12/12 (RP 01/01/12 R)
= $9.00 ($5 after ECBs)

3 Special K cereal bars @ 3/$10 = $10 (receive $4 ECBs)
- $1/3 Kellogg's Special K Cereal Bars, Fruit Crisps or Granola Bars, exp. 2/26/12 (RP 01/01/12 R)
= $9.00 ($5 after ECBs)

Total product: $26.00
Pay with $7 in ECBs from previous trips
Total out of pocket: $19.00
Total saved compared to CVS full prices: $18.82
ECBs received: $10

There were some peelies at Walmart for a free Special K Protein item wyb 3 cereals/bars/etc - I might go back and buy some Special K there for the opportunity to get extra coupons (there's one on each box, but you could only use one per deal) and then use them with this deal at CVS. Need to do the math.

I would have thought the same as you. I know when they have a Limit 2 deal on something like toothpaste, you can get the 2 deals in one transaction. I'm glad the manager gave it to you!
