Publix: Procrastinating and couponing

Sometimes, procrastinating can be good for couponing. You might plan to go grocery shopping on a Thursday, to get the new week's deals, but then procrastinate and decide to go on Monday. But then a coupon for a product you want shows up in Sunday's paper. So you can use the coupon and get the deal! (Of course, you could check the Sunday Coupon Preview to see what's coming up.)

But more likely, procrastination is bad for couponing.  You might put off shopping until the last day of a sale, then have a personal or family emergency and not be able to go.  Or, you might plan out a great trip, wait a few days to go, and then discover that some of your deals won't work because the coupons have expired!

That's what happened to me this week.  I planned to go shopping last Thursday, but then didn't end up going until yesterday.  There was a good deal on Special K that I was hoping to snag because we are almost out of cold cereal, and I won't pay more than $1.50 per box.  But when I checked my coupons before checking out, I discovered that the coupons had expired on Sunday.  Aargh!

Despite the procrastination (and computer and printer problems), I was still able to get a few good deals at Publix this week.  Here's what I got:

2 Honey Nut Cheerios @ $1.99 = $3.98
- $1/2 Cheerios Cereal, exp. 11/5/11 (SS 09/25/11 R)
= $2.98 for two, or $1.49 each

6 Nestle Toll House peanut butter chocolate chip cookie dough @ BOGO $3.49 = $10.47
- 6 $0.75/1 Nestle Toll House Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, exp. 11/11/11 (RP 09/11/11 R)
=  $5.97 for six, or $1.00 each

2 DiGiornio shredded Parmesan @ BOGO $4.79
- 2 $2/1 Any DiGiorno product printable
= 79¢ for two, or 40¢ each

12 Voskos yogurt @ 10/$10 = $12.00
- 6 $1/2 Voskos yogurt coupons (found at an in-store promotion a few weeks ago)
= $6.00 for twelve, or 50¢ each

Total out of pocket: $15.74
Total saved: $43.68

We went to Publix on a vaction in FL a few years ago, their prices were sky high, DD made her own slogan, "Publix, proud high prices". Not for you though! Way to GO!

Publix regular prices are quite high. The only items I buy there are things that are on sale, preferably a BOGO sale, and that I have coupons for. I find much lower regular prices at ALDI.

Bought the BOGO Digiorno Three cheese and it was great! Made Alfredo sauce with it.

My Publix outside Orlando would not accept the DiGiorno coupon for the cheese (coupon showed pizza but said any DiGiorno product). It wouldn't scan. :(
