Wednesday Weekly Shopping: Why I shop on Sunday

I invite you to link up to your best grocery deals below, to inspire others to save more!

This week I got some great deals at Publix, CVS, and Walgreens.  Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to blog about the drug store deals.  I was quite busy during the holiday weekend, so although I planned out my shopping trips, I didn't get a chance to actually shop until Tuesday.  And here's two reasons that was a mistake:
  • Of course, the drug stores were out of a lot of the deals.  I was especially looking forward to getting a free Hershey's Air Delights bar from CVS... but the store was completely out of them.  (I did get a raincheck for one.)
  • Secondly, when I went to pay, I discovered that several of my coupons had expired!  I had planned the trip for Sunday, September 4, and there were several deals involving coupons that expired that day.  D'oh!  At Walgreens, I went ahead and bought the items without coupons - they were still a good deal on price or after Register Rewards, and I didn't really want to put stuff back.  But at CVS, I checked before and pulled out the expired coupons.
So although I had a great holiday weekend, I'm definitely going to try to shop on Sundays from now on.

So here's what I got on all my shopping trips this week:

CVS: Spent 61¢, saved $19.42

Walgreens: Spent $19.29, saved $20.64

I also made a second trip to ALDI and spent $15.64 on two gallons of milk, two dozen eggs, two containers of cottage cheese, and six cans of tuna.

Overall, this week I spent $96.12 for items which retail for $182.11, or a 47% savings based on the retail value of the products at the stores where they were purchased.  (But don't compare percentages!)  I didn't calculate my real savings this week.

For the year (36 weeks), I've spent $2707.62 for items which retail for $5132.44, and saved $2424.82, or a 47% savings. That's an average of $75.21 spent each week for a family of five (husband, wife, and daughters ages 14, 10, and 6), including lots of fresh produce, dairy items, and kosher meat.

How did your shopping go this week? What bargains did you get? Please leave a link to your blog post about your weekly shopping. The aim is not to brag, but to inspire!  Please link up directly to your post, not to the blog itself. I'd appreciate it if you put a link to Wednesday Weekly Shopping in your post as well. If you don't have a blog, please leave a comment!
