Wednesday Weekly Shopping: Should I stay or should I go?

I invite you to link up to your best grocery deals below, to inspire others to save more!

This week, I used up my whole $80 per week budget (and a little bit more - oops!) before the weekend at Publix, ALDI, and the produce store.  So I had a dilemma: do I go to the drug stores or not on Sunday?

The con side:

  • The budget was used up.
  • There wasn't anything on sale that I really, really needed.
  • There were money-makers to get, but I didn't have the matching coupons.
  • I didn't have any Extra Care Bucks or Register Rewards that were expiring.
  • Gas is expensive, not to mention my time.
And the pro side:
  • I'd have something to blog about.
It's a frugal stumbling block that is unique to frugal bloggers - should I buy something just so that I can write about it for Frugal Follies?  More blog posts mean more opportunities for folks to read the blog, and more opportunities to do blog linkups for that post.  And of course, I'd like people to read what I have to say!

In the end, I resisted the temptation... this time.  I skipped the drug stores.  But my questions to my fellow frugal bloggers - have you ever shopped just so that you could write about the deal?

Speaking of deals, here's what I got this week (click on the link below the picture for more details about the trip):

Overall, this week I spent $88.58 for items which retail for $137.07, or a 35% savings based on the retail value of the products at the stores where they were purchased.  (But don't compare percentages!)  My real savings (how much more I'd spend if I bought those items at the lowest possible regular price in my area) was approximately $19.57.

For the year (24 weeks), I've spent $1774.44 for items which retail for $3498.96, and saved $1724.52, or a 49% savings. That's an average of $73.94 spent each week for a family of five (husband, wife, and daughters ages 13, 10, and 6), including lots of fresh produce, dairy items, and kosher meat.

See all my shopping here.

How did your shopping go this week? What bargains did you get? Please leave a link to your blog post about your weekly shopping. The aim is not to brag, but to inspire!  Please link up directly to your post, not to the blog itself. I'd appreciate it if you put a link to Wednesday Weekly Shopping in your post as well. If you don't have a blog, please leave a comment!

I try to save $20.00 back out of the budget every week for spending on clearance and or freebies at the drug store. If I don't spend it I roll it just like ECB's and RR, that said I have had weeks where I had zero and this was one of those weeks for me as well. However, this week I had a rebate that came in the way of a debit card I used it to solve the problem this time.

Today's clearance finds were at the Grocery:
2lbs Amy's Ground beef reduced to $3.29 used $1.00 off coupon
1 lb of Hillshire Farm Honey Ham reduced priced to $3.00 for the container used $.50 off coupon
Bought 3 ears of corn $1.00
1.5 of Potatoes
1 package of bread .88
1 carton of eggs manager special $1.29 used .35 off coupon
1 pkg of strawberries $1.68 lb.
1 angel food cake mix clearanced .50 for the box
1 pkg of cheese sale priced $2.08 used .50 off coupon
1 pkg of Twizzlers on clearnace 1.19
Enough food to feed my family (the ones that are home the next few days) for at least two days if I stretch it!
Final price under $20.00 for all. This is priceless!!!!!

I sadly had to skip the drug stores this week too. I used up my budget at the grocery to stock up on some cheap meats... I hate missing out on the deals, but I don't like wasting money.
And the sales ALWAYS come back around! :)

What I love about the drug stores is that sometimes, if you plan it just right, they don't have to cost a thing =) But some weeks I've been so busy blogging I've had trouble finding a time to shop!

Yes, I have shopped just to check on something before. I went out on Wednesday to CVS to check the Pepsi deal. I guess it is a downfall for us frugal bloggers!
