Walmart: Sometimes I do pay full price

Sometimes I just gotta pay full price - when I haven't been able to stockpile a needed item and we need it right now.  Occasionally even a needed item can be put off until the next sale comes around, but not this time.

Generally, I buy items like that at ALDI, but ALDI doesn't carry quite everything.  So my next choice for items like that is Walmart.

Up until two years ago, I used to go to Walmart every couple of weeks and fill up an entire cart, and then some, with their house brands.  It was the cheapest option for buying groceries, or so I thought... until I learned how combining sales with coupons could get me the same types of items for much, much less!  So since I've been couponing, I haven't bought all that much at Walmart.  And now with ALDI in town, I've only been a couple of times all year.  This makes me happy, since I simply don't enjoy the shopping experience at Walmart.

But, sometimes you need to go to get some items, so here's what I got:

Great Value dish detergent @ $2.27
Prell shampoo @ $2.47
Equate fluoride rinse @ $2.88
Equate baby powder @ $1.73

Tax: 57¢
Total spent: $9.92

You sound just like me! You wouldn't be near Dallas would you? We just got Aldi, too (right across the street, I might add), and until this week it had been a year since I stepped foot in that other godforsaken place except to pick up a site to store order.

@Amanda - Nope! I live in South Florida. We just got three ALDI stores in our general area back in November/December. It has totally changed the way I shop!

You sound just like me too! I did exactly that, buying once a week at Walmart thinking I was buying the cheapest way by getting Great Value brand. Now I'm surprised at what I was paying before! I agree that the best option is 1) coupons + sales on name brands, 2) Aldi, 3) Wal-mart if you need it now! But if you shop at drug stores, I find it hard to run out of things like you show above, I have a fairly large stockpile after only a couple months playing the drugstore game! In fact, I have to question whether it's worth going to the store for free toothpaste if I already have 5 tubes! :)

I agree with your order! My husband likes Prell shampoo, and in two years of couponing I've never seen coupons or a sale price for it. I've bought the fluoride rinse and baby powder at drug stores on sale with coupons before but just must've missed some sales recently. And I find that the dishwashing powder at Walmart is cheaper than the brand name on sale plus coupons elsewhere. So that's the story this time.
