Wednesday Weekly Shopping: Giving myself a pass

I invite you to link up to your best grocery deals below, to inspire others to save more!

For the third week in a row, I spent over my budget of $80 per week for a family of five (mom, dad, and girls ages 13, 10, and 5).  But this time I'm giving myself a pass.

The main expense this week was replenishing my freezer with kosher meat.  And if you don't already know, kosher meat is very, very expensive.  I bought 2 whole chickens at $1.99 per pound, about 3 pounds of ground beef at $4.99 per pound, and two packages of chicken tenders at $6.99 each.  Altogether, that was about $48 of the $87 I spent this week.

Luckily, I entered my expenses into my shopping spreadsheet before I did any more shopping on Monday or Tuesday - because I discovered that I had already gone over budget!  There were a few other items at Publix I had wanted to stock up on, but I will wait until another sale comes around again.

I did get some great deals this week.  I spent about $2 at CVS and $3 at Walgreens and got a bagful of items at each, so it was a good week for the Drugstore Bootstrap Challenge.  And I was able to stock up on cheese at Target and peanut butter and pasta at Publix.

Overall, this week I spent $87.17 for items which retail for $160.15, or a 46% savings.  (But don't compare percentages!)  Of course, if I compared the ALDI prices to supermarket full prices, it would show a lot more savings.

For the year (7 weeks), I've spent $414.29 for items which retail for $740.36, or a 44% savings.  That's an average of $59.18 spent each week.

See all my shopping here.

How did your shopping go this week? What bargains did you get? Please leave a link to your blog post about your weekly shopping. The aim is not to brag, but to inspire!  Please link up directly to your post, not to the blog itself. I'd appreciate it if you put a link to Wednesday Weekly Shopping in your post as well. If you don't have a blog, please leave a comment!

Everyone deserves a "pass" now and then! As long as you are saving where you can, you're doing great. :-)

I was going to back tomorrow as well, but after adding up my totals, it looks like I should skip the shopping:)

Meat is expensive in itself, so I can only imagine how expensive Kosher meat is.

I would like to invite you to link up your savings at the Weekly Savings Linky @ Frugality Is Free . Enter to win a $25 Publix GC too!

You do such a great job saving anyway and your weekly average is exceptional, especially since you did the clean out the closet challenge where you weren't using lots of coupons.

I always say it is ok if I go over a bit if there is meat involved. When you see a good deal you gotta stock up because they don't come around often.
