CVS: I should've put it back

I took a trip over to CVS, and paid a little more out of pocket than I did at Walgreens, and more than I had intended. I had four ECBs to spend ($7.58, $2, $1, 99¢). It just didn't occur to me to total up what I planned to buy, and put something back or move it to another transaction if it went over. Which it did.

Here's what I got:

2 Kellogg's Smart Start cereal @ $3.00 (receive $2 ECB for two)
- 2 $1/1 Smart Start coupons from the 2/6 RedPlum insert
= $4 for two boxes ($1 each after ECBs)

1 Revitalens multi-purpose solution @ $5.99 (receive $5.99 ECB)
= $5.99

1 Crest Pro-Health @ $3.29 (receive $3.29 ECB)
-  $1 off Crest coupon from the P&G Everyday Solutions book
= $2.29 ($1 moneymaker after ECBs)

1 Softsoap body wash @ $2.99 (receive $2 ECB)
= $2.99

Total product: $15.27
- $11.57 in ECBs
= $3.70 after ECBs
Tax: 38¢
Total out of pocket: $4.08
Total saved: $20.05
Total ECBs received: $13.28

If I had to do it again, I would've put the Softsoap body wash back.  Then my total in product after ECBs would've been only 71¢.  And I could pick up the body wash on another trip and use ECBs from this trip.  Oh, well, you learn something new every time!

Good Morning Laura!
You still did a fantastic job. I get so confused when I do those kind of shops especially because it's been so long since I've done it regularly.

You may want to come by my blog this morning. I think it could make your day.

I used to have so many extra bucks that I never had to think about multiple transactions, now I do 2 to 4 each trip. Easy to forget to do that--I feel your pain. Thanks for linking up your CVS shopping trip at Simply CVS.

I think you did wonderful! I never think to try and split things up. I just do a big transaction each week, and if I have more ECBs than stuff to buy, I throw in a bottle of frappuccino. =P

I always do several transactions to spend the least out of pocket. It takes a little planning, but sooo worth it to me, unless they are out of something and I have to get a raincheck...That messes my whole plan up...LOL! Great job!!
