Wednesday Weekly Shopping: Mistakes were made

I invite you to link up to your best grocery deals below!

It was a week of a little bit of this, a little bit of that.  I ran around to six different stores, including two trips to Walgreens, to get the best deals.  But I did most of my shopping at Publix, so that I could use a $3 off $30 coupon (from the Publix calendar).  But I made a few mistakes:

  • I didn't bring a calculator to total up my pre-coupon price, relying instead on my wonderful memory.  I had to stop and remember prices and readd them in my head several times throughout the trip.  Luckily I was alone; had I had one or more of my children with me, this would've been impossible!  Lesson: Bring a calculator with you, no matter how good you are at math.
  • I saw a sale on red grapes, but I took the wrong type of package; I took red globe grapes instead, which were 50 cents more a pound.  I could've exchanged them when I realized this, but I had spent so much time recalculating the amount (see above) that I didn't want to run back.  Lesson: read labels closely!
  • My pre-coupon total was $35, which surprised me, even with the grapes problem. At home, I looked at the receipt, and found the problem: I had wanted to buy two packages of 6 oz Craisins, which were buy one, get one free.   Instead, I had bought one 6 oz bag and one 12 oz bag, which were both full price.  Oops.  I returned the next day and got the free bag.  Lesson: read labels as above, and watch the monitor as the cashier rings up the purchase!
Overall, I spent $50.40 for items worth $108.65, or a 54% savings.

See all my shopping here.

been there and done that...it really makes you want to ask yourself what you were thinking when you put so much into planning that trip!

I too hate days like that, and boy have I had them. I need my calculator with me too, but one of my boys must have snatched it....so it's a good thing I always have pen and paper with me.

I hate shopping trips like that. Even with your mistakes you still did great, and it is really helpful to be able to learn from those kind of things! I would love it if you'd come link up your savings at living well, spending less
