Huge savings amount! But... (Friday Figures 04-11-14)

I invite you to link up to your best grocery deals below, to inspire others to save more!

Welcome to Friday Figures! Link up your best grocery deals below!

How was your savings this week?

I had a large savings amount, but it was dwarfed by the amount I spent.  I was shopping to get ready for the Passover holiday, which meant a lot of special foods, meat, and produce.  I also made a trip to Walmart to pick up some personal hygiene items that I would normally buy on sale at a drug store.  But since I haven't drug store shopped much in the last several months, I am increasingly finding myself running out of certain items that rarely go on sale at Publix.

The one piece of good news is that I probably won't do too much shopping next week.  I have plenty in the house, thank you!

Here's what I got this week:

Publix: Passing over savings

Passover is coming up for the Frugal Follies household, so I took a week off of most Publix deals and concentrated on purchasing items for the upcoming holiday.  I was still able to save, though!  I did use some coupons for fruit and for farmer cheese. And thank goodness for the $5 off $30 Winn-Dixie coupons from the Enjoy the City coupon books.  I used three!

Here's what I got:

2 Dole frozen blueberries @ BOGO $4.69
- $1/2 Dole Frozen Fruit Package, exp. 5/3/14 (RP 03/02/14)
= $3.69 for two, or $1.85 each

4 Dole pineapple @ BOGO $1.79 = $3.58
- 2 $0.50/2 Dole Canned Pineapple printable
=  $2.58 for four, or 65¢ each

1 Friendship farmer cheese @ $2.00
- $0.70/1 Friendship Buttermilk or Friendship Farmer Cheese (Publix Basket of Savings)
= $1.30

2 Sargento parmesan @ BOGO $4.19
= $2.10 each

2 Vita Classic nova salmon @ BOGO $6.39
=  $3.20 each

1 Empire turkey @ $33.79

1 Silver Spring horseradish @ $1.25

4 Breakstone Temp Tee cream cheese @ $1.50 = $6.00

1 Manischewitz wine @ $3.50

1 Kedem juice @ $2.50

2 Streit's egg matzah  $2.50 = $5.00

Nature Valley Breakfast Biscuits Review

Disclosure: The information and prize pack have been provided by General Mills through Platefull Co-Op.

I always want to give my kids a healthy breakfast.  But some mornings, we get a late start, and there's just not enough time to get in a homemade, hearty breakfast.

That's why I was glad to hear about Nature Valley Breakfast Biscuits. Each package of Nature Valley Breakfast Biscuits has 4 delicious biscuits packed with 26 grams of whole grain energy to keep you going, no matter where your day takes you.  They're located in the cookie aisle of major supermarkets, including Publix.

Be on the lookout for exclusive savings on Nature Valley Breakfast Biscuits at Publix. Here's a great printable coupon for 50¢ off Nature Valley Breakfast Biscuits.  Combine 2 printings of this coupon with a buy one, get one free sale to save even more!

I gave the blueberry flavor of Nature Valley Breakfast Biscuits a try.  They come in 5 individually-wrapped package to keep them fresh, 4 biscuits to a package.  I was expecting a biscuit, but these are more like English biscuits - that is, cookies.  I was happy to see that the product contains no trans fats, no high fructose corn syrup, and no artificial flavors.

I thought they tasted good enough to be a snack, not breakfast.  The blueberries were chewy and flavorful and the cookie was crunchy.  They were definitely yummy!

On the down side, I noticed that both sugar and honey are ingredients; sugar was the third most common ingredient and honey was the sixth.  I have to wonder if they were both listed as a single ingredient, it would be the top ingredient in the biscuit.  I try to avoid having overly sweet breakfasts for my kids.  And despite the cookies having 26 grams of whole grains, they didn't strike me as being particularly filling as a breakfast.

So I think these biscuits would be a great, healthy snack, especially a morning snack, but I really doubt that I would use them to replace a child's breakfast.

But they are definitely delicious, so I recommend them as a great morning snack!

I invite you to link up to your best grocery deals below, to inspire others to save more!

Welcome to Friday Figures! Link up your best grocery deals below!

How was your savings this week?

I went to Publix four times this week!  Two big shops for deals, another one to pick up some more on-sale toilet paper, and a fourth when my child with special needs insisted that we have "pizza bread" for dinner last night.  (That means French bread pizza.)  I didn't have any bread or mozzarella cheese in the house, so I made a special trip just for her.  She was very happy at dinner that night.

Here's what I got this week:
