ALDI: Try a new store!

I learned two things from shopping at ALDI this week:

First, don't bring your kids if at all possible. It seems easy to bring kids to ALDI compared to the supermarket, since it is so much smaller.  But the temptations are still there!

I brought my youngest with me, and of course she wanted things that she saw there.  I relented on the bagels pictured above.  But I wouldn't have bought them otherwise.

(Okay, I already knew this lesson, I admit.)

Second, try going to a different ALDI store once in a while.  Yes, they basically have the same stuff at each store.  But you might find something you didn't expect!

A few weeks ago, I had found some lemon cookies on the discount aisle.  I bought two boxes, and my kids loved them!  But when I went back to my store, they were all gone.

But this week, I went to a different ALDI store for a second trip.  And in the discount aisle were... the lemon cookies!  So I bought two more boxes.

Here's what I got on the two trips:

Trip #1 (pictured above):

2 gallons milk @ $3.09 = $6.18
1 cottage cheese @ $1.99
1 cinnamon bagels @ $1.49
1 chili powder @ 99¢
2 apple juice concentrate @ 99¢ = $1.98
1 tray Roma tomatoes @ $1.19
1 cantaloupe @ $1.19
2 whole wheat bread @ $1.29 = $2.58

Total spent: $17.59

Trip #2:
1 gallon milk @ $3.19 (ouch!)
1 16-oz shredded cheese @ $2.99
1 2-lb grapes @ $1.98
1 20-ct tortillas @ $1.99
1.97 lb bananas @ 44¢/lb = 87¢
1 chocolate syrup @ $1.69
2 boxes lemon cookies @ 99¢ = $1.98

Total spent: $14.69

I sure wish they would open up an ALDI store a little closer to us, but so far there is only one in our area unless we go 45 minutes north or south.

BTW I have never seen those lemon cookies, I'm intrigued.

I went to Aldi for the first time today and I was so in awe of how low their prices were! I thought it was weird not seeing much name brand foods but I did get a few things just to see how they compared. I also thought it was weird how they don't bag your items, so I ended up having to lug the few things I bought to my car, so I guess next time I should come prepared! But definitely good deals there!
