Whole Grain Waffles (Frugal Food Thursday)

waffles

Welcome to Frugal Food Thursday!  If you have a great frugal recipe, please link up below!

Busy, busy, busy!  So I'm repeating one of my favorite recipes for Whole Wheat Waffles!

Here's the recipe:

WHOLE WHEAT WAFFLES

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup sugar
2 eggs, separated
1-1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup canola oil

Sift together the flours, baking powder, salt, and sugar into a large bowl.

In a small bowl, beat egg whites until stiff; set aside.

In a medium bowl, beat egg yolks, then add milk and oil.  Pour mixture into the flour mixture and stir until ingredients are moistened.  Fold in beaten egg whites.

Preheat waffle iron and grease the top and bottom.  Ladle batter to within one inch from edge.  Bake waffles for the time indicated on your waffle iron, or 4-5 minutes.  Remove waffle from iron.  Repeat batter step until all of the batter is used up.

I love cheap recipe! Thanks for posting your whole wheat waffles. I've added my four bean salad - which is also pretty darn cheap to make!

I like how you have used a combination of whole wheat and white flour here for a great flavour balance as well as added nutrition.
